German architects HENN rose to the challenge of designing this new Porsche visitor centre in Wolfsburg, creating a streamlined pavilion with a curled-over steel roof at the Autostadt theme park in Wolfsburg. The structure is dedicated to the presentation of Porsche's cars and its curving lines and bends make for a reduced yet dynamic sculpture, characteristic of the automotive company's own iconic designs.
Similar to the monocoque construction technology used in the automotive and aerospace industries, the building envelope forms a spatial enclosure while at the same time acting as load-bearing structure. A total of 620 sheets of stainless steel cladding with welded ribs were prefabricated in a ship-yard and assembled on site.
